Los Ninos of Hueneme

On Monday we went out to do tactical reviews in our sector. We went by this one place to check on the water source availability. We parked the engine and in no time we had all of these little observers checking us out. I gave them each a fire sticker and they were thrilled. I asked if I could take their picture and they were all so excited! Their smiles were priceless!!

45th Academy

On June 15,2007 the 45th Academy for VCFD graduated. They put on a demonstration for friends and families in the morning to show us what they had learned during their 16 weeks in training. In the evening, they had the formal graduation ceremony at the Ronald Reagan Library where they received their badges and station assignments. An exciting day for all!

Car Fire

It's the middle of the night, usually, it seems around 2am is a good time for our night calls to happen but of course anytime is probable...we get toned out to a car fire. It is on the outskirts of our sector, off the road in a field just blazing as we arrive. I have all my gear on and am ready to jump out of the cab and grab a line when I realize that I don't have my helmet . We had been out during the day and I was driving the "beach buggy" and had my helmet next to me and forgot to put it back in the engine. Anyways, I asked to use John's helmet. It worked great but John had a good laugh when the pictures "He took" had himself putting out the fire! Pretty talented guy ... but we all already know that!!

Beach Fun = Beach Safety

When I was reading through the paper the other day I came upon this article of interest on riptides. I thought that it was a clear drawing and a simple explanation of signs to look for from shore. Swim with a buddy and be aware of your surroundings! Here is a picture of one of the lifeguard towers being placed on the Hueneme Beach. Lifeguards are on duty during the day but we still must be our own best safety monitors!

"Oh Danny Boy the Pipes the Pipes are Calling ..."

On April 13, 2007 we paid tribute to Tom O'Malley Sr.

An Old Irish Blessing

May the Road rise to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back

May the sun shine warm upon you face.

May the rains fall soft upon your fields

and until we meet again,

May the Lord hold you

in the palm of his hand.

Many thanks to all who attended and made this service so wonderful. A special thanks to Captain Tony Salas for his candid shots of the ceremony.

Marina Firefighting

Today we had a Marina Firefighting class taught by Pat Fergus of Orange County. In the morning was the classroom portion and after lunch we all met at the docks for walk throughs of many different vessels. We also got a chance to see what to do in the event we were to fall into the water. Chris was our "overboard firefighter" ... thanks Chris!!
