First Responder Hazmat Training

Today we had our hazardous materials refresher training class. Here, John and Lowell are looking up a hazardous material in the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG). Our Battalion Chief taught the class at our station. Two more engine companies joined us for the training.

After the classroom portion of the training, our Chief had us set up a decontamination station with two of our engines. We parked them a few feet apart, put a ladder between them and then hung a hoseline down from the middle of the ladder. On the sides of the engines are outlets that we put nozzles on to discharge water to the center of the engines. If we had to decon people at an incident, we could have them stand in the center and then they would be showered with all three nozzles.

Fit Testing

Every year we get fit tested for our self contained breathing apparatus face masks. We also get fitted for our respirators. We do this so we can be assured that the seal is safe on our face and does not let the toxic smoke in. I told John to smile when I took this picture of him ... can't you tell by his eyes that he is smiling!

CPR Refresher Training

Well, yes, can you believe it ... I am finally back to work, still healing a bit from my fall on Thanksgiving Day but work as usual. Here we are as a crew during our CPR refresher training on my first day back. As it happened, I worked the next day and we did have a full arrest! There is always some sort of training going on to keep us on our toes. Never know what kind of call we will be responding to when the bell goes off!
